Field Tool Test

Before a Field Tool Test is allowed to proceed, the Route to be tested must not be In Service.

The Field Tool Test enables a field engineer to test multiple Passive Optical Networks (PONs) during the build and commissioning phases.

It provides a range of pre-configured test types to make field testing as straightforward as possible.

The field engineer selects a fibre and the type of test to be run, which will command the optical switch to connect the OTDR to the selected fibre for testing.

Fastlight then commands the OTDR to start a measurement.

When the measurement is complete, the OTDR sends results of the measurement to the Fastlight.

The measurement results include:

• a trace of reflected intensity plotted against distance;

• a list of "optical events" (point reflections and point losses typically due to connectors and PON splitters and possibly faults) which the OTDR found in the trace; and

"meta-data" for the measurement including its date and time, and parameters such as pulse width, pulse power and trace resolution.

Fastlight analyzes the results received according to the type of test selected.

For some test types, Fastlight generates a direct Pass/Fail indication.
